North Louisiana is hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter than the coastal cities of the Gulf of Mexico. Summers are usually in the low 70s to mid 90s and winters cool to the mid 30s but average highs in the 40s to low 50s. May is considered the wettest month, with 5 inches or more of rain. High humidity can make high temperatures feel even more oppressive, make sure to cool off!

If you've ever thought about enlisting in the largest branch of the military, you may have wondered what the benefits are...Barkdale Air Force Base, LA. ()-For those interested in the rich history of Barkdale Air Force Base, all you need to do is visit the site of the Global Power Museum.
In the past, those without military identification or a military sponsor could drive and leave on the same day, but that has changed.
On Sunday, December 15, the site officially made new changes for citizens who wish to visit the museum. Visitors must now complete an appointment to access the museum 30 days prior to their visit.
"Safety should always be a priority, no matter what," said Amy Russell, the museum's director. "My job here is to teach and encourage, but... Everyone is safe."

Russell says foundation leadership, security, and the museum's history program sat down months ago to begin discussing these new security changes.
The museum currently receives an average of 30,000 visitors a year in the busiest months from March to August. Russell admits the new changes will affect his presence.
"Unfortunately, we have high hopes that the number of visitors will decrease slightly because not all of them want to do it, or not all of them will see because not all of the people check the museum's website before they leave," he said. "They just show up."
Russell says the 30-day notice was added because they believed it would give them enough time to remove everyone each day. He says if the number of visitors to the museum drops significantly in the next few months, they will sit down and consider changing the notice period.

If you have any problems or questions about your visit, Russell urges you to always call the museum or Barkdale security.
"It's very important that I call and check and say 'Hey, send me my information. I want to make sure I got my date because my family and I are coming,'" she said. "Call and check and if it's not there you can work with them (security) to make sure everything is checked and cleared."
You can call 318-456-4270 or 318-456-3219 if you have questions about the form or need to ask questions.
Make sure you have your driver's license or state ID and make sure those items, as well as your vehicle registration, are up to date or you will not be granted access to the base.
